Introduction:English department sprouted its roots in the year 1967. The English Department offers undergraduate with courses like BA, B.Sc., B.Com and BCA, with basic English and optional English as one of the three optional subjects particularly for the BA course students, who are interested in English language and Literature. The department aims to prepare every student with overall development of his personality. Gulbarga University was established in the year 1981, after then it is affiliated to Gulbarga University, Gulbarga. In the beginning English subject started as Minor subject, later on we have started as Major subject. In 1986, Gulbarga University has introduced a new system called as all the three subjects of equal importance and students are having an opportunity to take admission any one of the three subjects. Now at present the college is affiliated to Bidar University Bidar was established in the year 2023. Objective of the Department:
The department initiated innovative methods to teach English for all students who have taken English as one of the basic subjects in BA, B.Sc., B. Com and BCA course (NEP/SEP). The teachers who are working in the department encourage the B.A. students (DSC/Optional English) to learn English as an important language and literature subject in their course. The department conducts seminars, interactions and giving home assignments to students and returns them after correction. Teachers advise the students to participate in different competition like quiz, elocution, debate, and exhibition. Our students participated in inter-college/University and state level events and got the laurels to college. Each year students are also advised to join actively in NCC and NSS and give them awareness regarding anti-ragging, eve teasing. We teach them moral values and work ethics.
The faculty members are well experienced & dedicated and always involved in the teaching & creative activities. We engage the classes using Smart board, LCD projector along with traditional black-board teaching. The students will be engaged in class seminars and home assignments and surprise tests. We conduct two internal assignment (I.A.) tests as per the university regulation. Our students are participated in all the curricular and co-curricular activities organized by the college. For further study students will move towards B.Ed, LLB, or for higher studies like M.A., M.Sc., M.C.A, M.B.A, many students are working as teachers, lecturers, lawyers, politicians, businessmen, social workers or for coaching for competitive exams and few students have been absorbed in Govt. and private sectors with their abilities. DURATION OF THE COURSE:The course the study for the B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., and BCA UG Degree shall be of three academic years comprising of six semesters. CONTRIBUTION TO CURRICULUM:I:- The faculty members participated in the Work shop, Seminar, Conference, Refresher course & Orientation programme.II:- All the staff members are actively engaged curricular and co-curricular activities of the department and also represented the college in various academic forums.
